USI and IBSA Foundation Scholarships, since 2020 also to Master in Medicine students

IBSA Foundation for scientific research continues its commitment to the promotion of medical studies at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). A valuable collaboration, established in 2017 for a period of 10 years, which provides for the annual financing of CHF 240,000 for a total of approximately CHF 2.2 million.

September 14, 2020 at the CST National Youth Sports Center in Tenero marked the official inauguration of the new USI Master in Medicine.

70 scholarships were awarded, made available by the IBSA Foundation to USI students enrolled in the Bachelor in Medicine at the University of Basel (30 students) and, for the first time, also the 40 enrolled in the Master at the Università della Svizzera italiana were able to benefit from it. The scholarship students enrolled in the Bachelor's degree course will then continue their training with the Master’s course of the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences in Lugano.

"We believe we can contribute to creating a very innovative Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, able to attract future students and talented professors from all parts of the world, also sharing our projects and the results we have achieved in recent years. The goal is to have a Faculty able to train doctors who are more aware of a much broader and more complete concept of health", says Silvia Misiti, Director of IBSA Foundation, which has always been committed to scientific dissemination.

The Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences Prof. Dr. med. Mario Bianchetti notes that "the six-monthly fee at USI is higher than that of other public universities in Switzerland. The IBSA Foundation grants, which amount to two thousand francs each, compensate for this difference, thus making the study of medicine more attractive in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland."

Annual renewable scholarships as a contribution to encourage medical studies at USI. The scholarships were awarded by the Director of the Foundation, Silvia Misiti, in the presence of professors from the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and the Dean Prof. Dr. med. Mario Bianchetti.
