On October 28, 2019, 30 scholarships were awarded by IBSA Foundation to USI students enrolled in the first, second and third year of their Bachelor’s degree in Medicine at the University of Basel. The prize-winners will then continue their studies with a Master’s degree in biomedical science at USI in Lugano. The scholarships were awarded by the Director of the Foundation, Silvia Misiti, in the presence of professors from the Faculty of Biomedical Science at USI and by the Dean Prof. Dr. Med. Mario Bianchetti.
Silvia Misiti, underlined that IBSA Foundation’s commitment to supporting medical students marks a great desire in Switzerland for both this specific kind of training and for the development of a scientific center south of the Alps that will interact with other university research centers.
The Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Med. Mario Bianchetti highlighted the important and distinctive character of the Master’s degree in Medicine at USI, namely its “proximity”. In fact, the close proximity of professors and students makes it possible for a motivating sharing environment to be created, which is fuelled also by the ongoing dialogue with doctors and patients.
